In case you aren’t on watermelon lockdown like I am, I wanted to share this Watermelon Frosty recipe I found for a quick and tasty treat that can make for a delicious snack on a warm day!
Super simple. Takes less than 5 minutes.
INGREDIENTS:
2 1/2 cups of frozen watermelon pieces
1 large lemon (squeezed)
1 fresh banana
2 tbsp maple syrup
1/2 cup of water
DIRECTIONS:
Freeze (overnight) pieces of chopped up watermelon.
(Make sure the frozen watermelon will fit into a blender and not be the shape and size of an entire unblendable iceberg.)
Squeeze lemon juice into glass, or directly into the blender.
Place frozen watermelon pieces into blender with the banana, maple syrup, and lemon juice.
Blend these ingredients, then add the water and blend again so it’s more beverage like and not sorbet like.
For extra zestiness, add some lime juice.
Pour & Enjoy!
Serves 2
If you are not with child like I am, try adding some tequila for a watermelon margarita!
Fact: Right after purchasing it, I went to my OB for a routine pregnancy checkup, only to have her tell me I’ve gained too much weight in the last 2 weeks (4 pounds – yikes!) and that I can’t eat fruit (or carbs in general) anymore until my weight gain is down to a pace of 0.5 pounds a week.
Fact: I ate half of above mentioned watermelon within 16 hours of purchasing it. By myself. Even after the doctor told me fruit was off limits.
Baby made me do it.
I’m working on the second half of said watermelon as we speak.
Let’s pretend I’m not.
While we’re at it, let’s pretend that I only ate eggs for breakfast, salad for lunch, and protein and veggies for dinner today like the doctor ordered.
Not pasta with bolognese sauce and a lobster roll and an empanada and orange juice and, of course, watermelon.
I know, I know. I really should watch what I eat.
Lest my baby come out the size of a 15 pound watermelon. ~YiShaun
This afternoon was a beautiful spring day in New York City. The rain and dreary weather are finally leaving us in peace!
I’ve missed you, swimming pool season.
To help get your toddler swimming this summer, here’s a quick breakdown of some easy exercises you can practice with them at the pool or even in the bathtub!
Over the last 2.5 weeks or so, baby boy has started getting fetal hiccups everyday.
It started when I was about 7.5 months pregnant.
At first, I wasn’t sure what it was. It wasn’t as strong as a kick. It was more like a tap.
But instead of a random tap here and there, it was more rhythmic, like a little beating heart.
Baby boy gets them about once or twice a day, at no set time. Sometimes in the afternoon, sometimes it’ll be in the evening, and they usually don’t last more than just a few minutes.
Sometimes I’d feel the hiccups here, sometimes I’d feel it here, and sometimes, if baby is facing the opposite direction, I’d feel it against my bladder. Not very helpful baby!
So I’d try to get the baby to reposition by jiggling like this…

Wow, Memorial Day is right around the corner. That means only one thing: goodbye heavy wool coat, hello painted toes and flip flops!
I wanted to share some fun and affordable beachwear finds that’ll make your and my first beach trip of the year cute and affordable.
If, like me, you have nicer flip flops you don’t want to ruin, but need super cheap flip flops to maneuver around sandy beach restrooms, then Old Navy’s 2 pairs for $5 is a steal.
I’ve been trying to ward off sun damage on my face for years. In addition to sun screen, I like wearing large sunglasses with big brimmed hats, like this simple crochet white floppy hat and this bow trimmed hat.
I also found some adorable rompers and jumpsuits that can make for loose and comfortable cover ups.
Yellow Jumpsuit $12.50
Floral Romper $19.80
Target has a good variety of sun dresses and cover ups as well.
Their website was easy to navigate, and the search filters on the left-hand side really helped narrow down my searches so I could find exactly what I needed.
Here are a couple of things that I really liked…
Colorful Floral Dress $24.99
Black Cover up $22.99
If you find any other great beach buys, please share them in the Comments section below! ~YiShaun
Loviest, I love you so much. You are so generous with your love, and I thank you for making the last 3.5 years of my life the happiest they’ve ever been.
I am so lucky to be able to spend the rest of my life with you.

For all you people who love to take pictures and share them, Instagram just sold to Facebook for $1 billion!
They are an 18 month old company, and it’s really amazing they’ve been able to grow their company in 18 months and be able to sell it for $1 billion.
So if you have a great idea you’ve been mulling over, that just shows you that if you can get it out there and people love it, it can take as little as 18 months for it to become huge and valuable.
If you had asked me 10 months ago what the key to being a successful entrepreneur is, I’d have said: do what you’re passionate about. Now that my business is profitable, I feel like my eyes have been opened a little more. Now, in addition to “do what you’re passionate about,” I have to also add the much more grounded advice of: try to come up a business model/a way of making money that is repeatable and sustainable. There is of course way more to building a successful company than just that, but that’s a key brick in the foundation.
Yesterday in the Wall Street Journal, it said that autism has now been linked to obese mothers. It said that women who were obese before being pregnant had a 60% increased chance of having children with autism.
That’s kind of scary because it turns out 1/3 of women who are of reproductive age are considered obese in the United States, so that’s a little frightening.
I know there are always new factors out there about possible connections to autism, so who knows what is the exact cause of it, or if it’s a combination of different things. The article said that fetal brains need a lot of sugar, and if the mother’s body doesn’t make insulin or can’t use it properly, it can possibly disrupt fetal brain growth or cause mutations.
The other possible factors that seem to contribute to autism are if there is less than 12 months between children, older parental age, and premature birth/birth complications.
This past weekend, I was in Raleigh/Durham, NC with J while he was interviewing for a fellowship position in heart surgery.
Having grown up in Southern California and living in Manhattan for all of my adult life, North Carolina was definitely a change of pace, but it was beautiful and seemed like a lovely place to raise young children.
There was so much green around! Way more than I’m normally used to seeing in the concrete jungles I call home.
